Frequently Asked Questions

Where are my compressed/processed files saved?
By default, PdfPress saves output files to a "PdfPress Output" folder inside your Documents directory. You can change this to a custom folder or choose to replace the original file from the Output settings in each tool.
Does PdfPress upload my files to the internet?
No. PdfPress works entirely offline. All processing happens locally on your Mac. Your files never leave your device.
How do I use the Finder Quick Action?
Right-click any PDF file in Finder, then select Quick Actions. You should see a PdfPress option that compresses the file with the default (Balanced) profile. The compressed file is saved alongside the original.
Can I automate PdfPress with Shortcuts?
Yes! PdfPress provides 7 Shortcuts actions: Compress PDF, Merge PDFs, Split PDF, PDF to Images, Images to PDF, Watermark PDF, and Protect PDF. Open Shortcuts.app and search for "PdfPress" to find them.
Why is my compressed file larger than the original?
Some PDFs are already highly optimized. In those cases, reprocessing may not reduce the size further. Try using the "Maximum" compression profile for the most aggressive compression, or use Custom mode to fine-tune DPI and quality settings.
What macOS version is required?
PdfPress requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.
